FAQ
Does the Smart Plug need an electrician to install?
No. It plugs directly into a standard 16A wall socket. Plug it in, plug your appliance into it, connect to WiFi — done.
Can it handle my 1.5-ton AC?
Yes. A 1.5-ton AC typically draws 7–10A. The Smart Plug supports up to 16A (1800W inductive), so it handles a 1.5-ton AC comfortably.
Can it handle my geyser?
Yes, provided the geyser is within 2500W (resistive load limit). Most standard Indian geysers (2000W) are well within range.
Does the auto-off timer work if I switch the appliance on at the wall socket rather than the app?
Yes. Auto-off timers fire regardless of how the appliance was turned on — at the socket or via the app.
What does the voltage protection actually do?
It monitors the incoming voltage continuously. If it goes abnormally high or low, it automatically cuts power to the appliance and sends an alert to your phone — preventing damage to the connected appliance's motor or compressor.
Why does voltage protection matter for an AC?
AC compressors are sensitive to voltage fluctuations. A failed compressor can cost ₹18,000–25,000 to replace on a unit worth ₹50,000+. The Smart Plug's auto-cut protection can prevent that damage entirely.
What is the power-factor alert?
Power factor is a measure of how efficiently an appliance is drawing power. When it drops below 0.8, it typically signals that the appliance (e.g. AC, motor) needs servicing. The Smart Plug detects this and sends a servicing alert before a breakdown occurs.
Does it need a hub?
No. It connects directly to 2.4GHz WiFi. No additional hub or bridge required.
Does it work without internet?
Yes. The physical button on the device works without internet. Schedules and automations set on the device also run locally. Remote control via the app requires an internet connection.
Does it work with voice assistants?
Yes — Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, and Apple Siri are all supported.
Is there a subscription fee?
No. All 20 app features are included with no subscription.
What is the warranty?
3 years.
How accurate is the energy monitoring?
±5W for power measurement. Voltage, current, kWh, and power factor are all monitored in real time.
How much does the plug itself cost to run?
Less than 0.8W at standby — negligible.
Is this on the Tuya platform?
No. Beakn runs on its own platform.
